PURPOSE



To protect employees, contractors, visitors, and Orano Mining Namibia (OMN) assets by developing, implementing, and monitoring effective occupational health and safety programs that ensure legal compliance, minimize workplace risks, and promote a culture of health, safety, and continuous improvement.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

The incumbent is responsible for complying with all applicable company policies, procedures, standards, and legal requirements relating to Health, Safety, Environment (HSE), Quality, Finance, Human Resources, and other areas relevant to the role. Key responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

Conduct and facilitate Health and Safety inspections and audits.

Assist line management in conducting risk assessments and developing Written Safe Work Procedures (WSWPs).

Develop, review, and maintain H&S policies, procedures, and standards in line with legislative and organizational requirements.

Monitor and enforce compliance with H&S policies, procedures, and legal requirements, including contractor compliance.

Conduct workplace inspections and hazard identification to ensure effective risk control.

Investigate incidents and accidents, recommend corrective and preventive actions, and monitor the implementation of agreed actions.

Compile and submit monthly H&S statistics, reports, and key performance indicators (KPIs).

Maintain accurate H&S records, databases, and compliance documentation.

Coordinate the Safety Representative programme and Health and Safety Committee activities.

Resolve or escalate H&S concerns and non-conformances as appropriate.

Deliver H&S inductions, awareness programmes, and safety training.

Plan and coordinate emergency preparedness activities, including drills, evacuations, and emergency response procedures.

QUALIFICATIONS & REQUIREMENTS



Diploma or bachelor's degree in occupational health and safety or equivalent

Valid Driver's license

Recognized Health and Safety certification (e.g., NEBOSH, SAMTRAC, IOSH Managing Safely, or equivalent).

Registration with the relevant professional body where applicable.

Knowledge of applicable occupational health and safety legislation and regulations.

Understanding of ISO 45001 Occupational Health and Safety Management Systems is advantageous.

Knowledge of emergency response procedures and business continuity principles.

Familiarity with PPE requirements, hazardous materials management, and safe work procedures.

Ability to conduct site inspections in operational environments.

Willingness to travel between sites, where required.

Ability to work outside normal business hours during emergencies or incident investigations, shuts and operational readiness.

Medically fit.

EXPERIENCE



Minimum of 5 years' experience in an Occupational Health and Safety role within the mining industry.

Sound knowledge and practical application of applicable occupational health and safety legislation and regulatory requirements.

Experience in emergency preparedness, response, and incident management.

Experience in the construction industry will be an added advantage.

Proven experience in conducting workplace inspections, safety audits, risk assessments, and incident investigations.

Detail:



Site:                      Trekkopje Site outside Arandis

Duration:               6-12 months with a possibility to renew

Transport to Site:   Bus in the morning and afternoon from Swakopmund or Arandis

Working hours:       07h00 until 17h00 – 10hrs per day (1hour lunch not billable) – 55hrs per week

                             Working hours may vary depending on project requirements

                             Bus leaves town at about 05h30 – this may vary

Working days:        Monday to Saturday

                             This may change depending on project requirements

                             Weekend work will be required from time to time

On site meals:        Lunch supplied by Orano on site

PPE:                      On site change house – PPE must stay on site, gets washed by Orano.

                             PPE must be worn when on site.
